The Procedure

Transoral Outlet Reduction

During TORe, an endoscope is inserted through the mouth and the gastrojejunal anastomosis (the connection between the gastric pouch and the small intestine) is reduced using a suturing system. This slows gastric emptying and restores the feeling of satiety.

What is TORe?

TORe stands for Transoral Outlet Reduction. It is an endoscopic procedure in which the dilated connection between the gastric pouch and the small intestine after a gastric bypass is reduced again - without reoperation.

When is TORe indicated?

TORe is indicated when weight regain has occurred after a gastric bypass and the cause is a dilated gastrojejunal anastomosis. TORe can also be very effective for dumping syndrome (hypoglycemia).

How does TORe differ from reoperation?

TORe is performed purely endoscopically through the mouth - without abdominal incisions, without the general anesthesia risks of another abdominal surgery. The procedure takes 30-60 minutes, recovery is significantly faster, and the complication risk is lower than with surgical revision.
